HOW DO YOU BECOME INFECTED?
Players can only become infected during an event via an interaction with a Special Infected (a Special Infected is a tile-based monster that is themed pertinent to the current Book. Special Infected can only be encountered in Dice Combat during a staff-ran event.)
Different Special Infected can infect players under certain conditions like a player having a certain Status Effect, or by failing a roll of one of our several stats.
Event Directors will let you know if you have been infected during an event after a roll has been resolved. Actions may not be taken by players to change the outcome of a roll after the Event Director has stated that a player is now infected.
TIERS OF INFECTION
TIERS OF INFECTION
There are three tiers of infection; Tier 1, 2, and 3. Infection can only progress from one tier to another via a Special Infected interaction during an event. Players may not progress, or devolve their level of infection progression outside of a staff-ran event.
HOW ARE TIERS OF INFECTION TRACKED?
Tiers of infection are tracked by staff. When a player is infected or the tier of infection progresses, a staff member will pull you into a ticket to tell you and direct you to this page. If you have any questions about how Infection works, then would be the time to ask!
1
TIER 1 INFECTION
Your muscles contract and ache as though you’ve run a marathon. Sweat beads across your skin as coughs wrack your body. The world swirls around you in a confusing haze, and sometimes even the simplest thoughts threaten to slip through your fingers.
You’re definitely sick. But maybe not that sick. Not yet, at least.
Tier 1 Infection gives you the “TIER 1 INFECTION” profession. This profession replaces your existing one, removing any stat bonuses or abilities that you may have had previously. Tier 1 Infection applies a -2 to Luck and Resolve.
-
Involuntary Muscular Convulsions
-
Persistent Fever, Sweating and Chills
-
Respiratory Distress with Persistent Cough
-
Intense, Unrelenting Back Pain
-
Episodic Confusion
2
TIER 2 INFECTION
Everything hurts. Nothing makes sense, anymore.
The fever-haze is only getting worse, and you lose track of yourself from moment to moment. It’s harder to remember where you are, what you’re doing, than it ever should be. You find yourself gasping for a breath you forgot to take, your eyes burning from sightless staring, and even the most minute decision has become an insurmountable obstacle as your mind lurches through dizzying spirals.
When you aren’t paralyzed by apathy and indecision, you’re on a short fuse. Even the slightest inconvenience can become the catalyst for vicious, unprecedented fury.
Tier 2 Infection gives you the “TIER 2 INFECTION” profession. Tier 2 Infection applies a -2 to Luck and Resolve, and a -1 to Brutal and Deft.
In addition to the Tier 1 Infection Symptoms, apply the following;
-
Widespread Muscular Inflammation
-
Episodic Moderate/Severe Confusion
-
Episodic Acute Memory Loss (think Dory from Finding Nemo)
-
Episodic Executive Dysfunction (trouble making small decisions)
-
Autonomic Dysfunction (Forgetting to blink, breathe, swallow, etc.)
-
Episodic Violent Behaviour
3
TIER 3 INFECTION
You are the master of your own fate no longer. All that you are, all that you ever could have been, is lost - forever.
There is no salvation for creatures such as you. You will join your kin in mindless pursuit - and if you are very, very fortunate, you will meet your end at the hands of someone much luckier than you were.
When Tier 3 Infection is applied, the player afflicted dies. The application of Tier 3 Infection places a CK on the targeted player.
SERVER EVENT BASED PROGRESSION
As we progress through Book 5, the infection may react to the events that have happened during the course of the book. Announcements in #🌐ic-events-and-rumors can progress Tiers of Infection for all infected players on the server, reflective of the efforts made by players in the world— or lack there-of. After these announcements are made, you will be pulled into a ticket to have your profession changed to the next tier. If you are a Tier 2— open a [REQUEST AN EVENT] ticket.
These announcements will not directly result in death, but your time will soon run out.
ROLEPLAYING INFECTION
Roleplaying infection is required. How exactly to roleplay infection is based on how your character would respond to the symptoms listed under each tier of infection. Neglecting to do so is considered Powergaming, and is punishable by a minimum of a 24 temporary-ban on all in-game accounts, to a 3-day ban or a CK of the infected character.
CURING INFECTION
Infection can only be cured by someone with the Healer profession. One "cure" item clears all Tiers of Infection. With the right ingredients, a cure can be synthesized.. but at the beginning of our story, those are yet to be discovered.
As the book progresses, more information will become available. Keep an eye on the #announcements channel for more information about curing the infection.
